San Pedro Trip is published by the team behind Dutch-Smart, a Dutch smartshop. Dutch-Smart sells San Pedro seeds and living Peruvian torch and Bolivian torch cacti, and the product links on this site go to that shop. When you buy through such a link, we earn from the sale.
We say this first because it matters for how you read the rest. The site exists because much of what is online about San Pedro is either shop copy or forum lore, and the legal position is often stated wrongly in both directions. We wanted one place that explains this cactus properly, with sources, including the parts that do not help sales: how little anyone can say about the strength of a given plant, who should stay away from mescaline, and where preparing the cactus is an offence.
How the information is put together
- Botanical facts come from the botanical literature, mostly through the species accounts we link.
- History comes from archaeological and ethnographic work and from the Peruvian government's 2022 heritage declaration, which summarises both.
- Effects and safety information comes from published studies and from harm reduction organisations such as ICEERS and the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
- Legal information comes from the legislation itself, checked on the date shown on the legal page.
- The session account on the effects page is a composite, clearly labelled as such. We do not publish invented testimonials or reviews.
- We make no medical or health claims of any kind, and nothing on this site is medical or legal advice.
Every page shows when it was last updated. Laws, research and products change. If you find something out of date or wrong, Dutch-Smart's customer service can pass it on to us.
Who is behind the shop
Dutch-Smart is a Dutch smartshop that has been around since 2011. It ships from the Netherlands and only sells to adults. The lion in the sunglasses is its mascot.
